In this talk, I will unpack the myth of studying abroad by comparing it with different types of learning environments, including domestic immersion contexts. The main discussion will go around learner development and gains, while she presents several key issues about some learner and context-related variables, such as age, the amount and type of meaningful contact, and how these variables interact in a way to promote L2 development.
