Language of attraction: online communication in a speed seduction community of pick-up artists
Einführung:
-
- Doing things with words: negotiating, attracting, selling, building a brand. The toolbox of pragmatics and discourse analysis.
-
- How can we study communicative action in a systematic and unbiased way? Main principles of corpus linguistic approach and corpus-based discourse analysis.
Vertiefung:
A very popular and highly commercialised group of “pick-up artists” builds their brand on the pseudolinguistic claims that using certain lexical items or conversation scripts, a man can make himself sexually attractive to any woman on a subconscious level. This study investigates the linguistic persuasion in the community of pick up artists: on the one hand, unsuccessful persuasion aimed at women, and on the other, highly successful persuasion aimed at potential new members of the community.
