From September 18th to September 28th, the
University of Konstanz offers a summer school programme on the subject
Multilingualism in Western Europe: France and Spain. The programme is organised
by the departments of Literature and Linguistics at the University of Konstanz
together with the Centre IKER UMR 5478 (CNRS, Université de Pau et du Pays de l´Adour et Université Bordeux Montaigne). The programme will be coordinated by the
professors Georg A. Kaiser (Universität Konstanz) und Ricardo Etxepare (IKER).
The summer school aims at discussing concepts of
multilingualism, language contact as well as cultural and linguistic
consequences of multilingualism on individuals and in society.
The interdisciplinary project is targeted at
young researchers (in their PhD studies or at advanced MA-level and teaching
studies). A special focus will lie on the situation of regional languages
spoken in Spain and the metropolitan France, in particular Bask, Catalan,
Occitan and Breton. Especially the differences in the two countries regarding
local and minority languages will be subject to the courses. The summer school
is comprised of an introductory course on “Theory and Methods of
Multilingualism and the Individual” which will be attended by all participants
and four subject specific courses taking place at the same time and
concentrating on either a linguistic topic or literary and cultural studies.
The working languages will be French, German, Spanish and English. We expect
passive language competence in either French or German.
