The Emergence of Contact Languages: Researching Sociohistorical Contexts

Sociohistorical factors such as migration, economic conditions and colonial policies have influenced the nature of linguistic and cultural contact in different parts of the world. Although important in shaping the creoles and other contact languages that emerged in these contexts, such factors are not always taken into account. This workshop will focus on the sociohistorical factors affecting language contact and discuss the various sources of data that can be used to elucidate them.
