This workshop will be organized by Hermann Paul School of Linguistics (HPSL), the joint Basel-Freiburg doctoral school for the language sciences, and take place at the University of Freiburg (Germany) on 16 and 17 November 2017. Prof. Mark Davies (Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, USA) has created numerous widely used large reference corpora of English and other languages. His workshop is intended for advanced (master-level and PhD) students in English and/or linguistics.

The programme will feature two keynote talks by Prof. Davies, in which he will discuss the potential of the current BYU corpus-linguistic working environment and discuss perspectives for further development. The core element, however, is interactive sessions in which students working with the corpora will have the opportunity to present and discuss their research on the corpora with the compiler. For logistical reasons, the number of participants will be strictly limited to twenty. If you are interested, please submit an application by e-mail to:

Prof. Christian Mair (English Department, christian.mair@anglistik.uni-freiburg.de).

The deadline is 13 October 2017. Your application should include your full name and institutional affiliation and a one-page outline of your research based on one or more of the BYU corpora. A full programme will be disseminated to participants after the evaluation of the applications.
